Evangelical Christian (Outreach Canada)
Origin
Evangelical Christians are not a single denomination, but are any Protestant and Catholic Christians who adhere to the beliefs described below. They are not organized under one body, but affiliate with one another and work together towards common goals because of their common beliefs. The term originates in the Greek word evangelion, meaning "the good news," or, more commonly, the "gospel." The modern usage usually connotes the religious movements and denominations which sprung forth from a series of revivals that swept the North Atlantic Anglo-American world in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Key figures associated with these revivals included the itinerant English evangelist George Whitefield (1715-1770); the founder of Methodism John Wesley (1703-1791); and, the American philosopher and theologian, Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758).
Outreach Canada is an interdenominational para-church organization working with evangelical Christians across Canada. Some evangelical denominations include Apostolic, Associated Gospel, Baptists, Brethren, Christian and Missionary Alliance, Christian Reformed, Evangelical Free, Evangelical Missionary, Free Methodists, Mennonites, Nazarene, Pentecostal, Salvation Army, and Wesleyan.

Beliefs
- We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God
- We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit
- We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
- We believe that for the salvation of a lost, sinful humanity, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential
- We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling Christians are enabled to live godly lives
- We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved unto the resurrection of life, and those who are lost unto the resurrection of damnation
- We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ

Most evangelical Christian congregations meet on a weekly basis for worship, teaching, and fellowship. While Sunday has been the traditional day for these meetings, practices vary. Most congregations also offer other opportunities for people to gather for prayer, worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry and outreach. Personal times of worship and prayer are also encouraged.
In the Ottawa/Gatineau area there are approximately 150 Evangelical Christian congregations.
